Which are the most widely used national NHS APIs at the moment? I have collated the data from NHS England, and drilled down on the average number of API requests against key national NHS APIs over the last three months.. Personal Demographics Service - FHIR API - 56,714,417 NHS CIS2 Care Identity Authentication - 27,830,695 Spine Directory Service - FHIR API - 24,305,258 Immunisation History - FHIR API - 12,628,908 NHS App API - 11,885,621 GP Registrations Management Information API - 10,945,679 Patient Care Aggregator - FHIR API - 9,566,577 Prescriptions for Patients FHIR API - 4,647,512 e-Referral Service - FHIR API - 1,624,809 Booking and Referral - FHIR API 885,530 NHS Notify API (prev. Comms Manager) - 74,587 Electronic Prescription Service - FHIR API - 27,892 💡 Interesting to see SDS and PDS APIs are very widely used in comparison to the other APIs, with an average 56m requests each month for PDS and 24m for SDS. It makes sense as a lot of other APIs require a PDS and SDS request. 💡 Also interesting that CiS2 (authentication via smartcards/iPads/keys/etc) is widely used, and usage appears to be growing looking at the monthly data. 💡 More services are utilising NHS App related APIs than ever before (the NHS App API, PCA API, and NHS Notify API are all related to the NHS App). With a growing 34 million registered NHS App users it makes a lot of sense. 💡 The Immunisation History API (used to access a patient’s coronavirus immunisation history) is more widely used than I was expecting, with 12m requests each month.

I logged into the NHS App for the first time today in a while and I can see it's iteratively becoming more interesting. Seeing your test history is a neat feature (but requires some medical knowledge to know what you're looking it). I also like the ability for caregivers to manage health services for their dependents - it's also one of the things I really like about Ada Health's app (really handy when your little one or significant other gets sick). It's cool to see Patients Know Best integrated for hospital appointments and health record access but the UI could do with helping patients better understand what this is. Feels like you're randomly presented with another non-NHS service which could be a barrier to completing the sign-up and integration process. Overall it's getting there and I'm glad to hear there's more updates on the way and I'll be interested in seeing how utility looks over time / whether or not it achieves the current government's NHS aims: https://lnkd.in/egaHpd8v. Trying to get your health tech solution into the NHS? Buckle up, it’s a long road, but here’s your roadmap..... We’ve been working with companies to navigate the complexities of getting their tech adopted by the NHS, and it’s clear that persistence and a clear plan are key. Here’s a quick guide based on what we’ve learned along the way: 1. Figure out the real need If your solution doesn’t solve a genuine problem for the NHS, it’s going to be a tough sell. Do your research upfront. That’s field research as well. 2. Clinical evidence is non-negotiable No solid clinical trials, no traction. Simple as that. Gather data, prove your solution works. 3. Build relationships with the right people It’s all about the stakeholders. Start engaging with NHS Trusts and Health Innovation Networks early. You need to have a BD mindset and start making those connections they pay off. 4. Tailor your solution to NHS workflows Don’t expect to just drop in your tech. You’ll need to adapt it to fit NHS needs and systems. 5. Understand the procurement process This one’s a marathon. Get familiar with the ins and outs of NHS procurement—it’s long, but persistence pays off. Breaking into the NHS isn’t easy, but with the right strategy, you can get there. NHS Secure Data Environments (SDE) & How Industry Can Help? Everyone I know working in the health tech or life science industry believes the NHS (and therefore the British public) should receive fair value for the use of its data, whether that is financial or in kind. NHS Data has been independently "valued" several times before. EY quoted "a realization of £9.6bn per annum in benefits (i.e., the NHS benefits worth £5bn per annum and the patient benefits worth £4.6bn per annum)." So this is not small stakes and would go a long way to funding some of those manifesto pledges. The Data for Research & Development Programme, the regional SDE network and SDE owners are making strides to unlock this value for research and development use cases but they face significant challenges. The techUK Life Science Working Group have put together a short paper outlining where we feel industry can assist the programme tackle some of these challenges. Is tomorrow's AI in danger of blocking today's urgently-needed investment in data science in healthcare? We need to watch out for "jam tomorrow" syndrome. The technologies and the talent to tangibly address the most pressing healthcare challenges are already in place. Three quarters (75%) of the public support sharing some of their personal health data for the development of AI systems in the NHS, according to a survey commissioned by think tank the Health Foundation. Interesting findings. Anything you do these days, you get asked for permission to share the data. This helps organisations understand their customers, and the healthcare sector is no exception. Although some individuals remain sceptical about data privacy, I believe we live in an era when data sharing is becoming more open. DPN Research discovered in 2022 that the younger generation is more likely to feel comfortable sharing their data, which actually makes real sense when you think about it. Back to the NHS, results show that 59% were willing to share data on areas such as their eye health, 58% on medicines they are taking, and 57% on long-term illnesses they live with. However, the percentage of phone-tracked data is lower, reaching 47%. People named the ability to see and talk to NHS staff as their most important consideration about technology use in healthcare, with 39% people aged 65 years and older naming this as their most important consideration. The poll found that around two-thirds of the public have either high or moderate levels of trust in the NHS with their health data. #digitalhealth #artificialintelligence #healthcareinnovation #healthcaretechnology

Firing Wes Streeting from a cannon aside, NHS user research is about to uncover some real gems. I love this user-led approach from the NHS. By gathering feedback and ideas from patients and practitioners they should gain valuable insights about the problems people face and the potential solutions. Of course there have been silly and satirical suggestions - like replacing Wes Streeting with a dog or putting a Wetherspoons in every hospital - but once the novelty wears off, the jokers will move on, and I expect this user research project will reveal some amazing insights. #UserResearch #UserExperience #DigitalHealth

All of NHS England’s 107 stroke treatment centres are now using #AI software to support #diagnoses - head of elective care Darrien Bold said a national roll out has underpinned a big increase in the use of the technology over the past year. “An early stage analysis of this AI technology has shown it can reduce the time between someone presenting with a stroke and receiving treatment by more than 60 minutes, and is associated with a tripling in the number of stroke patients recovering with no or only slight disability - defined as achieving functional independence - from 16% to 48%.” https://lnkd.in/eNEEFVun

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology has announced a £1m investment in #cloud #storage to support the UK Biobank #biomedical #database - the Government is to provide £8m and has reached an agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the company to provide cloud computing credits worth another £8m – which can also be used in other services such as #AI and machine learning – as part of the activities of a public philanthropic consortium set up last year to support the Biobank.
