Citroën DS - An icon turns 70
The word "icon" is often overused. However, if there is one car that truly deserves this title, it is the Citroën DS. The impact left by the "Déesse" when it was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1955 has rarely been matched, let alone surpassed.
From April 25 to June 29, "the Citroën bomb," as the DS was called at its launch, will once again be in the spotlight at Autoworld.
The word "icon" is often misused. However, if there is one car that truly deserves to be called "iconic," it is the Citroën DS. The impact left by the "Déesse" (French for godess) when it was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1955 has rarely been matched, let alone surpassed.
From April 25 to June 29, "la bombe Citroën," as the DS was called at its launch, will once again make an impact at Autoworld.
Autoworld presents a unique collection in "Citroën DS – An Icon Turns 70" showcasing almost every version and variant. From the first ID19 to the ID19 Pallas, which embodied pure luxury, to the DS23 Pallas, the last DS to roll off the production line in 1975.
As the icing on the cake, starting May 26, the Citroën DS "Ballons" will join the exhibition. This iconic model was designed in 1959 by Claude Puech, then director of advertising at Citroën, and was first presented at the Paris Motor Show.
The DS Balloons features a DS 19 in the orange shade "Ecaille Blonde," resting on four enormous balloons instead of wheels. These symbolize the spheres of the famous hydropneumatic suspension, creating the illusion that the car is floating.
Photos of this visionary idea spread around the world at the time, reinforcing the DS's status as an avant-garde and timeless work of art.
Having become a standalone brand, DS Automobiles will present the all-new DS N°8, which will also be exhibited in the museum. This 100% electric SUV builds on the reputation of the original DS.
The DS N°8 is inspired by the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE concept. It offers impeccable quality, long range, and total comfort, making it the most serene electric car. The DS N°8 boasts a WLTP range of 750 km and over 500 km on the highway, thanks to an excellent drag coefficient (Cx) of 0.24.
On Sunday, May 4, from 10 AM to 2 PM, Autoworld organises a "Citroën-DS & Coffee" Event.
Owners of Citroën classics or any DS model (including current models) are invited— upon pre-registration via the Autoworld website—to join this unique birthday celebration on the Esplanade in front of the museum, honoring the DS.
Visitors are also warmly welcome to admire the stunning Citroëns and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere surrounding this legendary French car.
This exhibition is organized by Autoworld with the support of DS Automobiles and the Amicale of Belgian Citroën Clubs (ABCC).

years.» The people of Brussels were unaware they were living through an interlude; on the contrary, they threw themselveswholeheartedly into life, thirsty for entertainment and well-being.
This was the era of discovering automobile speed and the first aerial excursions, the joys of tourism for all, but also the arrival of talking cinema, the miracle of radio invading the home, jazz clubs, cabarets, and music halls that were always bustling, and sport becoming a popular way of life...
Posters, magazines, photographs, enamel signs, and objects will serve as keys to unlocking the atmosphere of Brussels life at the time, with a spotlight on graphic designers and illustrators, as well as Brussels and Belgian firms and products that will amaze you with their inventiveness and modernity. Featured are Leo Marfurt, Lucien De Roeck, Francis Delamare, Jeanne Hovine, Peter De Greef, as well as René Magritte, Hubert Dupond, Mark Severin, and many more.

From carpets to wallpaper, from upholstery fabrics to clothing patterns, ornamentation defines our daily lives and reflects the spirit of the times. The exhibition All Over explores and questions the evolution of patterns and colors in interior design between 1910 and 1940.
From carpets to wallpaper, from upholstery fabrics to clothing patterns, ornamentation defines our daily lives and reflects the spirit of the times. The exhibition All Over explores and questions the evolution of patterns and colors in furniture design between 1910 and 1940, a period marked by passionate debates on aesthetics, the role of women creators, and the birth of an accessible modernity through cinema and department stores.
Organized into three chapters, the exhibition spans thirty years in Belgium and Europe, covering upholstery fabrics and fashion, carpets, and wallpapers.
Rare textiles and creations, whether signed or anonymous, that shaped the interiors of the time have been carefully selected, offering a fresh perspective on decorative arts in the early 20th century.
The exhibition highlights works by André Mare, Edward Wadsworth, Elisabeth de Sadeleer, Evelyn Wyld, Eileen Gray, Georgette Leblanc, Marcel L’Herbier, Marcel-Louis Baugniet, René Magritte, Sylvie Féron, and Victor Servranckx, among others.
This exhibition is part of Art Déco@home, which brings together the Van Buuren Museum, the Boghossian Foundation, the Autrique House, and the Brussels Art Deco Society around this program.

Brussels Renaissance Festival
The Brussels Renaissance Festival offers, from 18 May to 5 July 2025, a series of events that showcase European heritage and history during the Renaissance.
The Renaissance period is, without doubt, the most prosperous period of Brussels' history. Holy Roman Emperor Charles V ruled over much of Europe, an empire over which it was said that 'the sun never set'. The most influential figure in European politics chose Brussels as his main residence. The result? An effervescence that permeated all domains: diplomatic, cultural, artistic, etc. It was, it some ways, the first tentative steps towards the construction of a united Europe... which would see Brussels become the capital of 500 million Europeans.
Now, that deserves a festival, wouldn't you say?

Come As You Are
A fashion photography exhibition with exclusive work by photographer Laetitia Bica.
Come as you are. For Brussels-based photographer Laetitia Bica, this goes without saying. As an artist, she does not let herself be limited by rules or clichés, always offering her audience a unique perspective. Her colourful photos are the result of artistic, intimate and emotional encounters.
Through this exhibition, Bica highlights not only individual expression, but also the power of the collective. For this exclusive photo series, the photographer puts 15 personalities in front of her lens dressed in looks by 25 Brussels and Belgian designers. From punk and kitch to drama, her images tell stories about fascinating beauties, otherness and the human body. The expo invites the public to become part of this shared narrative and discover the many facets of human expression.
ABOUT 'COME AS YOU ARE'
For the exhibition Come as You Are, Laetitia Bica made a special series of photographs that beautifully depict 15 personalities. She brought together a diverse group of performers: dancers, drag artists, DJs, make-up artists and actors. Their individuality and expression are central to the photographs.
For an entire month, Bica set up a photo studio at MAD Brussels. Her temporary studio became a space for creation, exchange and experimentation. Nothing was fixed beforehand, and nothing will be afterwards. Bica gives herself the freedom to enter into dialogue with her models, making each image a universe of its own. Her intuitive and collaborative approach blurs the boundaries between scenography and reality.
The pictures play with contrasts: punk and kitsch flirt with drama and poetry. Each of the people portrayed wears creations by Belgian and Brussels fashion designers, showing in their own way what fashion means to them. Designs by Eunji Oh, Julien Houdremont and Tom Van Der Borght, among others, can be spotted in the images. The clothes function as a second skin for the wearer, while performance, make-up and special effects reinforce their identity.
ABOUT LAETITIA BICA
Laetitia Bica grew up in Liège and studied at the ESA Saint-Luc. As a professional photographer, she explores different fields, from editorial to fashion to video clips, and works in constant collaboration with stylists, designers, musicians and choreographers. She has taken part in many international festivals and biennials, such as Circulation(s) in Paris, BIP in Liège, UNSEEN in Amsterdam and FOTODOK in Utrecht. In 2023, she was the winner of ‘Changemaker of the Year’ at the Belgian Fashion Awards.
Her artistic practice is based on constant research and experimentation. During her residencies, including at Villa Noailles in Hyères, RAVI in Liège and Het Huis in Utrecht, she combines visual research with spatial installations. Her work revolves around the creation of images, focused on the idea of revealing and exposing. Her creative process is constantly evolving, as she explores the connection between art, the environment and social issues.
Laetitia Bica's plural approach manifests itself in a singular visual language. Her portraits and landscapes take on a new kind of materialism and vibrant colours, the characters and landscapes blur the line with our reality. Laetitia Bica's approach is rooted in a contemporary world populated by recurring references to the sacred, the decay and the sea: the evolution of forms, the matrix of life, organised chaos and subversive elegance.

The Rooms Art Fair
Simply entitled The Rooms, this singular fair will take over several dozen rooms at the end of May
(22-25-05), several dozen rooms at Mix Brussels, a 4-star hotel and club due to open in spring spring 2023 in the former headquarters of Royale Belge, in Watermael-Boitsfort.
A new vision for art fairs
Desiring to offer a playful alternative to traditional art fairs by drawing inspiration from similar successful experiences, particularly in New York (Gramercy), Brussels (White Hotel), and Bangkok (Hotel Art Fair), the art dealer Patrick Mestdagh (Galerie Patrick & Ondine Mestdagh) has partnered with gallery owner Sébastien Janssen (Sorry We’re Closed) to organize a brand-new art and antiques fair in Brussels.
Entitled simply The Rooms, this unique fair will take place at the end of May (from May 22 to 25), occupying several dozen rooms of the Mix Brussels, a four-star hotel and club inaugurated in the spring of 2023 in the former headquarters of Royale Belge in Watermael-Boitsfort.
This art and antiques fair is the result of a friendship between two dealers: Patrick Mestdagh, who specializes in ethnic and non-European art, and Sébastien Janssen, who specializes in contemporary art. Both were keen to set up a “gallery fair organized for and by galleries”.
For them, as well as for all participants, the goal is to break away from conventional art and antiques fair formats, embracing a more intimate approach that has already proven successful, while organizing it in an unexpected venue. The Mix Brussels, nestled within a modernist building emblematic of the 1960s, set in a lush green environment, and featuring resolutely forward-thinking design, serves as the ideal location—a symbol of a new, dynamic, youthful, and creative energy.
In total, approximately thirty contemporary art galleries, art dealers, and antique merchants will occupy the spaces, filling an entire wing of the building. These exhibitors, some of whom do not participate in any other fairs, represent a diverse range of specialties, including jewelry, modern art, contemporary art, non-European art, decorative arts, ancient art, the High Middle Ages, archaeology, as well as classical art from Asia, Africa, and Oceania.
This unique format, where dealers and galleries each occupy a hotel room and tailor their offerings accordingly, will result in a one-of-a-kind experience for visitors, whether they are enthusiasts or collectors. The primary idea is to preserve the convivial and original character of the rooms as much as possible, thereby offering the public a distinctive, more intimate experience of engaging with works of art.
The event, which is free of charge, is open to all audiences and will feature a sculpture exhibition, as well as a room entrusted to the care of designer Lionel Jadot (Zaventem Ateliers). Jadot, the interior designer for the Mix Brussels, has been invited to curate and stage a selection of objects from the various participating galleries.
To meet the growing demand from the public, eager for knowledge and relevant information, *The Rooms* will also host a series of conferences and roundtables, in partnership with the private bank Puilaetco, which specializes in wealth management and has a presence within the former Royale Belge. Topics will cover a range of diverse and engaging subjects, including patronage, the transmission of heritage, the fight against money laundering, artist jewelry, the dialogue between dealers and collectors, art leasing, insurance, and more.
Another unique and delightful initiative will be a Mood Room, where, in a single large room transformed into a warm and festive space, the spirit brand Aperol, barber Bayer & Bayer, chocolatier Pierre Marcolini, and art publisher Taschen will come together.
This synergy aims to foster accessibility and dialogue, with an emphasis on conviviality, positioning *The Rooms* as an essential and enduring event for art enthusiasts and collectors.

Magical Realism
Magical Realism invites contemporary artists whose views challenge the norms of current aesthetics and discourse. Magical Realism reflects on an ecology that addresses both the aesthetic implications of our relationship with ‘nature’ at a tipping point, as well as the social, economic and scientific implications of exploring and shifting our conceptions of the planet.
What emerges from the alliance between magical formulas and factual prognoses, between a scientific mode of observation and mythical narratives? The title of the exhibition is borrowed from the artistic and literary movement of magical realism, which was characterised by its combination of a realistic narrative with images touching upon so-called ‘irrational’ worlds, magic, the dreamlike and myth. Through this porosity, different relations with reality converge and co-exist in f(r)iction.
In a context where the mechanisms of capitalism enhance the extractive exploitation of resources, overproduction and soil depletion, Magical Realism brings together artists and thinkers whose work rethinks our ways of inhabiting and conceiving of the universe. At the confluence of analytic and speculative tools, the exhibition invites us to consider the metabolic links that run through the biosphere — from mineral matter to bacterial fantasy, from plant life to technological and synthetic devices.
Magical Realism reflects on an ecology that addresses both the aesthetic implications of our relationship with ‘nature’ at a tipping point, as well as the social, economic and scientific implications of exploring and shifting our conceptions of the planet.

Paris, Brussels and back. The Art Déco period of the Baucher-Feron couple
A hundred years ago, the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts took place in Paris, an event that would come to put a name to the Art Deco style. It would serve as a platform for a young Sylvie Feron (1898-1984), who exposed there. Just as her soon-to-be husband, René Baucher (1902-1983), she was a prolific student of one of the main figures of the movement, the decorative artist, theorist and educator Paul Follot (1877-1941), director of the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris, who hired both of them for his Atelier Pomone. During this early creative period, the couple also worked for Magasins Vanderborght, in Brussels. This exhibition explores the archival material of the couple's design of textiles, lighting, objects, carpets and furniture during that period, with a focus on this constellation of Art Deco characters and retail enterprises.
Through an intense production between Paris and Brussels, the "Art Deco" period of the Baucher-Feron couple would become the founding stone of their own studio and furniture shop.

Midsummer Mozartiade
From 17 to 22 June, the Midsummer Mozartiade Festival will take place once again in the very heart of Brussels! What's on? Così fan tutte, Liebeslieder Walzer, Serenades and much more. For this 9th edition, Mozart invites us to follow him – blindfolded – through the improbable labyrinth of love.
‘It’s delightful, it’s delicious, it’s de-lovely.’
On June 18, 20 and 22, Così fan tutte, an opera as funny as it is profound, will be performed at the Théâtre Royal des Galeries. A philosopher and a chambermaid pull the strings, while four young lovers waver between fidelity and desire, guilt and true love. The plot is illuminated by Mozart's music, which never lies nor betrays. If you would like to learn more, two informative lectures in French will be held on 17 and 19 June in the bookshop at Maison CFC, place des Martyrs.
‘I wanna dance with somebody.’
On 21 June, also at the Théâtre des Galeries, it is Brahms' turn to make our hearts dance — in three-four time! A great admirer of Johann Strauss, Brahms wrote his first waltzes for piano four hands. His enchanting Liebesliederwalzer introduce four voices, which sing in turn of longing, nostalgia, sadness and joy.
‘Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away.’
On 17 and 19 June, in the Galerie du Roi, two seductive Serenades take us on a magic carpet ride from Oslo to Rio, via Naples and Seville. For their third appearance at the Festival, the talented Udana wind quintet will perform two programmes of works from the 18th century to the present day.
Join us the third week of June for this 9th Mozartiade, dedicated to the delightful — sometimes dangerous — game of love.
Laetitia Grimaldi (soprano); Cécile Lastchenko (mezzo-soprano); Kenny Ferreira (tenor); Kamil Ben Hsaïn Lachiri (baritone); Dorine Mortelmans (soprano); Shadi Torbey (bass); Eric Gobin (stage director); Vahan Mardirossian (conductor); Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie (orchestra); Stéphanie Salmin (pianist); Martin Gennen (pianist); Pauline Lebbe (soprano); Aina Callaert (alto)…

Be curious! It is that urge that drives us to discover, learn and explore.
Be curious! It is that urge that drives us to discover, learn and explore. It takes us back to our childhood, and to that wondering gaze with which everything moves and fascinates. That gaze has fueled Festival Musiq3 since its inception, each time promising a bridge between composers, young and established performers, and an enthusiastic and curious audience.
During this edition, we welcome big names from the international music world, such as jazz singer Youn Sun Nah and pianist Boyan Z, Hervé Niquet and his ensemble Le Concert Spirituel, pianist Yeol Eum Son, gambist François Joubert-Caillet, Het Collectief with Lore Binon, Brussels Philharmonic, Julien Libeer, and new work by Fabian Fiorini. Young Belgian and international musicians and ensembles are also in the spotlight. Their talent and daring inspire us to discover the classical musicians of tomorrow. To name a few: Jeneba Kanneh-Mason, Apolline Jesupret, Pierre Slinckx, Alice Hebborn, the laureates of the Concours Génération Classique, the festival orchestra, as well as two qualitative and playful performances for the little ones.
With 19 concerts and performances, this edition promises to be a four-day event full of creativity and surprising experiences in Flagey and Théâtre Marni.
