Using a neutral mediator who knows how to "ventilate" emotions, reduce the degree of emotions and helps the parties see mutual interests. The rapid intervention of a mediator is especially important in a cross-cultural environment, where the same word can mean very different things, and "deadlines" can be flexible in some cultures and rigid in others. Engaging a mediator is a strategic decision to maintain focus, speed, and team integrity.
