Netflix’s new docuseries "Bad Influence" is the show everyone’s talking about—and it all started with "Crushed," a gripping longform piece from Automattic’s own Atavist Magazine. "Crushed" pulled back the curtain on The Squad, a YouTube-famous group of teen influencers chasing fame. It uncovered allegations of abuse, manipulation, and the darker side of digital stardom, including the outsized role parents played in controlling their kids’ lives and careers. We’re proud that the journalism behind "Bad Influence" began at The Atavist, an award-winning publication now powered by Newspack, another Automattic product helping publishers bring vital stories to life. Ideas Beyond Borders (IBB) is a non-profit organization that equips individuals and communities across the Middle East with the information, skills, and resources to build a freer and better future. IBB faces endless pushback and targeting from authoritarian regimes, where information is suppressed. They power their open-source website and overcome these barriers using some of our products, including Jetpack, Akismet, Woo, and Pressable. Take it from IBB's Founder and President, Faisal Saeed Al Mutar, who says the site “is a bridge between different parts of the world.” We’re beyond proud to help reinforce that bridge.
