The damage from the #Myanmar and Thailand #earthquake was massive, and #recovery will likely take years. It is critical that local humanitarian leaders and organizations, who know the local immediate needs best, provide relief and set the course for long-term equitable recovery in communities after a #disaster or crisis. However, these leaders and organizations are often under-resourced and underfunded. Donations to CDP’s Global Recovery Fund can allow these local organizations to increase support for their communities, as CDP can provide grants to organizations outside the U.S. Learn more about how you can support recovery: https://bit.ly/4jePcdz #CDP4Recovery

We know disasters, so you don’t have to.
About us
We mobilize philanthropy to strengthen the ability of all communities to withstand disasters and recover equitably when they occur. CDP’s reach and impact through its educational resources, consulting services and grantmaking have continued to grow since its founding more than 13 years ago. As natural hazards and humanitarian crises persist and devastate communities worldwide, we will build on our successes, lessons learned and vital partnerships with community members to amplify our impact and move us closer to achieving our mission. In alignment with our vision, commitment to racial and intersectional equity and organizational values, five goals will guide our work for the next five years. Our primary goals are to: • Advance the equitable and long-term recovery of marginalized communities before and after a disaster. • Increase CDP's visibility, reputation and influence as a trusted expert in philanthropy. • Be the leading expert in support of equitable recovery for marginalized communities at risk of or affected by disasters. • Continue our transformation toward becoming an anti-racist organization. • Strengthen CDP's organizational capacity.

"We haven't lifted people's stories up in terms of what they've done for themselves. We've all too often painted affected communities as passive recipients versus active responders." - Patricia McIlreavy, Center for Disaster Philanthropy 🔄 It's time for a mindset shift in disaster philanthropy! Communities aren't just victims — they're problem-solvers with agency and expertise. In the latest episode of The Guide to Good Series with Brandolon Barnett, Patty and Brandolon talk about the idea that every donor is a disaster donor. ▶️ Check out the full episode: https://lnkd.in/gQPbPEfs #DisasterPhilanthropy #CommunityResilience #MindsetShift #ActiveResponders #EquitableRecovery

After the damage from #Cyclone #Chido, recovery will be different for each of the affected areas and countries. As a department of France, Mayotte will receive some French and broader European support. In addition to that support, Comoros and Mayotte are both islands and can only be accessed by air or water. Extraneous and unneeded goods brought onto the islands will add to the debris and waste management problem created by the storm. Many people lost everything in the cyclone. Direct cash assistance allows families to purchase items and services locally that address their multiple needs. It gives each family flexibility and choice, ensuring that support is relevant and timely. Cash assistance can also help move families faster toward rebuilding their lives. What we're watching: A severe #sandstorm blew across Iraq on April 14-15, sending thousands of people to hospitals for respiratory problems. The sandstorm reduced visibility to half a mile, grounded flights, cut electricity and forced people to stay home. Also, four people died in a spring storm that brought 3.5 feet of #snow overnight to the Alps and severe flooding to lower altitudes in France, Switzerland and Northern Italy. And on April 19, severe #storms erupted across Oklahoma, bringing hail, strong winds, #flooding, and several #tornadoes, killing three people, with two people still missing. The storms stranded vehicles, destroyed two homes and damaged many structures. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4cGlTyt #disaster

At least 25 people have died, including 10 in Tennessee and six in Kentucky, as more rainfall hit the already battered states in the Central and Midwest parts of the country. In Frankfort, Kentucky, the Kentucky River stopped just three inches below the top of the flood walls but still destroyed four dozen homes and several businesses and submerged the town’s water treatment facility. The Buffalo Trace Distillery, the world’s oldest operating distillery, was closed after it flooded. The highest flooding ever recorded for the Frankfort Lock was 48.47 inches in 1978, just above this year’s total of 48.2 inches on April 7. Since January 2025, 23 countries have reported #cholera outbreaks, many of which were carryovers from 2024. Between January 2024 and March 2025, over 178,000 cholera cases were reported in 16 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. In the same period, there were also 2,900 deaths, most of them children. The most significant outbreaks are in South Sudan and Angola, and nearly half of the cases were among children (50% in South Sudan and 40% in Angola). While cases decreased in January, deaths increased by 32% in February; there has been a total of 808 deaths in 2025. About one billion people worldwide are at risk for cholera. Two years today since the war in Sudan began. It’s a milestone no one wanted to mark, yet one we cannot ignore. For me, Sudan is not just a country on a map or in the headlines. It’s a place I once called home. A place where I worked alongside community leaders, local humanitarians and everyday people navigating the challenges of conflict and recovery with dignity and determination. The war has displaced millions, deepened humanitarian needs and fractured systems. But it has not broken the spirit of its people. At the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, we’ve supported Sudanese-led mutual aid networks and efforts like the Emergency Response Rooms. We’ve listened to those closest to the crisis, not only because they are there - but because they know how best to help. They always have. As international attention wanes and foreign aid budgets are slashed, funding for crises like Sudan falls even further behind what’s needed. Philanthropy must not look away. This is when we step in—not to replace governments, but to reinforce communities. To support civil society. To fund what is locally led and community-rooted. To help sustain hope. Sudan deserves more than a moment of our concern. It deserves a commitment. Join us supporting and lifting up the people of Sudan - https://lnkd.in/eGCBQMFZ
