In a recent paper in Genes & Development, IGI Investigators Hanqin Li (pictured) and Dirk Hockemeyer use a #robotic high-throughput screening method to examine almost 2,000 mutations that could be linked to #cancer development. I am pleased to share that my research with Wonduk Seo has been accepted to 𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐁 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 (𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫) and IEEE 𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐂 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 (𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫). Preprint: https://lnkd.in/gQZ72zDa Our work introduces a generative approach to pesticide design, focusing on optimizing small molecules to reduce toxicity. Key contributions include (1) curating and proposing a new pesticide toxicity metric—addressing limitations of traditional half-life-based measures. (2) developing a variational autoencoder (VAE)-based framework for pesticide molecule generation, inspired by techniques in drug discovery. I will be presenting our poster on Day 2 of RECOMB 2025! This project represents one of my first experiences leading a research effort from start to finish, and I am still in the process of learning—both technically and conceptually—about the intersection of biology and machine learning. I would be grateful for any feedback or discussion and warmly welcome anyone attending RECOMB to stop by the poster. I’m eager to learn from others in the community and engage in conversations around this exciting area of research.
