In the San Francisco Examiner's in-depth overview of how the administration’s policies are impacting nonprofits, SFF CEO Fred Blackwell talks about how we're doubling down on our work to meet this moment: “Because we have worn [racial equity] on our sleeve for so long, we don’t have any place to hide, so why try to hide right now? So let’s continue our work. Let’s continue to talk about our work. Let’s double down on the work that we have been engaged in, because we don’t believe that anything that we’re doing is illegal.” https://ow.ly/qvAg50VF2F2

More than 50 California labor and nonprofit organizations are asking Attorney General Rob Bonta to make sure OpenAI properly accounts for the public good as it seeks to transition from a nonprofit to a for-profit company. Fred Blackwell, CEO of the San Francisco Foundation, said he just wants #OpenAI to follow through on its original promise to benefit humanity. “We are not opposed to any conversion of nonprofit to for-profit. Nor are we wagging our fingers around the good or bad of AI,” said Blackwell, who heads one of the largest community foundations in the country. “We really just want to make sure that the assets are properly accounted for in this conversion. And that it’s an independent entity that comes out the other end.” #EyesonOpenAI #NonprofitAccountability Read the full KQED article: https://ow.ly/19hN50VyEXb

Professional Advisors: Join us May 22 for our annual luncheon at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in SF Luncheon presentation: Reversing the Generosity Crisis We are facing a crisis of generosity in the US. Fewer individuals are giving, and charitable engagement is declining — threatening not only the nonprofit sector, but the very social fabric that binds our communities and democratic society. In this thought-provoking session, Nathan Chappell, MBA, MNA, CFRE, global expert on AI and generosity, will illuminate how wealth advisors are uniquely positioned to help reverse this trend. Please note that this event is only for professional advisors. We welcome your attendance if you work in areas of law, accounting, financial planning, insurance, investment, and wealth management. In light of the growing transphobic oppression, state violence, and a political climate that jeopardizes the lives, rights, and movements of beloved trans individuals, it is crucial that we continue to uplift and honor the work, advocacy, and community solutions led by Trans Black, Indigenous, and People of Color and intersectional, racial justice advocates, particularly those focused on improving the lives of trans people most affected by carceral harm. A coalition of nonprofit leaders sent a letter to California Attorney General Bonta’s office on [last week], including from the San Francisco Foundation and Economic Security Project, as well as labor groups, calling on the AG to “take action to transfer #OpenAI's charitable assets to a truly independent nonprofit or nonprofits.” “This isn’t about trying to stop the conversion of nonprofit to for-profit,” Fred Blackwell, the CEO of the San Francisco Foundation, told California Decoded. “It’s really purely about making sure the assets that were accumulated for the public good stay that way.” #EyesonOpenAI #NonprofitAccountability Read the full Politico article: https://ow.ly/YOU350VyFeX

Imagine what it could mean for California to have billions of dollars committed to harnessing a world-changing, powerful technology for the public good. That’s why we’ve joined the 50+ organizations calling on CA Attorney General Rob Bonta to: ✅ Stop OpenAI’s for-profit conversion until the market value of its nonprofit assets is calculated ✅ Ensure that up to $300 billion in assets are redirected to nonprofits that serve the public Operating as a nonprofit may no longer suit #OpenAI, but that does not mean it can walk away from its obligation to serve the public good.
