Gary's post below (link in comments) speaks to the AI hype bubble. But it was the same with the Metaverse hype bubble too. It's always the same crap. The main reason I push back against the shameless hype-mongers (even if they resent all critiques) is that some really interesting companies with unique value to offer told the truth (as they should) and lost out on funding. Meanwhile, really stupid ideas that "promised the world in a day" got most of the money. Most of them failed within months or a few years at most when they couldn't deliver on those promises. We have a short memory. Some of those same people are back to the well for more of the same. Let's work past the "self-interested and mostly wrong" folks and stop inflating these bubbles. Support the people who are truly thinking out of the box and expanding the field for everyone's benefit. And yes, I'll say it: AI is a bubble too. Like most bubbles, the tech won't die out, but most of the startups racing in that lane will not exist in two years or less. And FWIW, the spatial understanding that Gary Marcus writes about has been the subject of deep research in the XR domain for the last few decades. AI without proper context is not all that helpful, it turns out.

We see this very often in deals, the request of a staple, but I personally think there are ways to navigate this, with everything being above board , both for the selling LP, buyer and the GP. We have had situations where the GP preferred buyer who could also do a staple, actually price the fund better... because they want to strengthen that relationship, and ultimately of course have had situations where the GP preferred buyer is the bad actor in the equation, leveraging their preferred position to down play price for the seller... it's all part of the negotiation process. #secondaries #setterstrong

Interesting though unsurprising finding from Bain survey on GenAI implementations thus far at large companies: primarily focused on incremental optimizations, which makes sense! Even what Bain characterizes as "growth" is likely dominated by incremental GenAI additions to current products, rather than truly "transformative" applications.

Very interesting analysis of the changing software value chain c/o ARK Investment Management LLC, demonstrating the impact #AI may have on the #saas market as software development becomes automated. A few weeks ago I posted the question of what the world would look like if the cost of software creation becomes zero, similar to the change impact of user generated content on the media industry. In ARK's view the whole software stack will be transformed with user generated software hubbed by the AI engine power brokers. The real question for me is: who will own the user? 🤔 As models gain access to our systems, APIs, agents, robots, and essentially all the world’s information, does the prompt become the ultimate UI?
