Conversations about gratitude are often abstract, and this can be difficult for people who prefer more concrete explanations and practical tips. Fortunately, the Greater Good Science Center (GGSC) at UC Berkeley has already done the heavy lifting for us. According to Robert Emmons and Michael McCullough, gratitude consists of two parts: 1. Recognizing that you have something good 2. Recognizing that that good thing didn’t come from you Gratitude isn’t just a mushy, feel-good concept. It can improve your physical health. In one study, cardiac patients that were more grateful had better health outcomes, including reduced cellular inflammation. How can you reap these benefits? You may have heard of some already, like keeping a gratitude journal or taking a moment to count your blessings. An interesting gratitude practice is actually doing something for others. Studies show that receiving gratitude – not just expressing it – can be incredibly powerful. I hope you try some of these techniques. And that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Did you know that a third of the Amazon’s population lacks access to clean water, despite living near one of the largest freshwater resources per capita? At #Lenovo, we believe this irony doesn’t have to exist. Two years ago, Lenovo launched a global partnership with Wine To Water, a non-profit organization committed to supporting life and dignity through the power of clean water. This past July, Lenovo sent two employees Rebekah Lentz and Clarissa Araujo; and two students, Aaron Gondo (UC Santa Cruz) and Sung Kim (Greenville Technical College), both members of the Lenovo EDU Community to the Amazon for six days to assist with clean water and disaster flood relief efforts. Earlier this month during our Love on Month of Service, Lenovo employees gathered to hear from the four volunteers about their experiences working alongside Wine to Water staff in Colombia and areas along the Amazon River. Following the panel, 600+ hybrid WW eCommerce attendees completed +100 filter builds that will positively impact the access to clean water for 10 years. The global event enabled the team to earn +800 Love On service hours. I can’t think of a better or more aligned partnership for Lenovo. As a company focused on creating #community, not only around our products but by a shared purpose, that's when we're at our best. When we're working together towards a common goal. Positive news for US manufacturing - TSMC’s Arizona facility is doing better than expected. Bloomberg reports the site is producing chips at 4% higher yields than similar Taiwan facilities. That’s big, especially for those of us who wondered if this complex manufacturing would fly stateside. After a couple of production delays, TSMC just came back and crushed expectations. This extra 4% yield is proof we can make this happen right here in the U.S. This isn’t just a win for TSMC - it’s a win for all of us banking on the CHIPS Act to reshape the global semiconductor map. High yields mean we’re not just manufacturing but doing it with some serious efficiency. And if that doesn’t help build momentum for more US-made chips, I don’t know what will.
