“When Paul Cook joined AST Computer in Irvine, Ca, he immediately shined as a great asset in our company's busy manufacturing environment. In my line of work as the Manager of OEM Engineering, exception was the rule. Most personnel in high volume manufacturing do not like exceptions and short runs. Paul with his positive, "can do", forward looking, attitude accommodated these exceptions requests, which eventually spawned into hundreds of millions of dollars of new OEM sales; hence long production runs. Paul will always be an asset for any company he chooses to work with.”

Let's start this week with some humor! 😀 1. What do you get if you play a supply chain country song backwards? You get your revenue back, you get your margin back, you get your on-time deliver back… 2. How many supply chain planners does it take to change a light bulb? None, the light bulbs are late. 💡 3. What’s the difference between Bigfoot and an accurate forecast? Bigfoot has been sighted. 4. What does the supply chain matador fear the most? The Bullwhip effect. ♉ 5. Why is it a bad idea to invite a logistics manager to dinner? They'll spend too much time deciding which person will pass the salt fastest. 6. The easiest way to find that missing inventory is to place a new PO. 📄 7. Demand forecasters are like slinkies. Not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs. 8. Employer: “For this buyer’s job, we need someone who is responsible.” Applicant: “I’m the one you want. In my last procurement job, every time there was a problem, they said I was responsible.” 🙋🏻 9. If you’re a supplier and you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of delivery dates. 10. There are two theories to getting an accurate forecast. Neither one works. 🙄 #humor #supplychainmanagement #procurement #sourcing #productionplanning Image: Getty Images/iStockphoto

The Harmonized System Code covered 98% of goods in international trade.Customs officials use it to assess duties and taxes. ○Incorrect HS code causes customs delays. ○Shipments can held up because of wrong classifications. ○you can lose out on trade finance due to inaccurate documentation.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭. 🤔 But AI can change everything. 🚀 Today, most buyers in supply chain roles face the same challenges: They're always chasing material readiness. 🏃♂️ They juggle follow-ups with suppliers to meet production deadlines. ⏰ And when they're not following up, they’re buried in Excel sheets… trying to analyze supplier performance. 📊 This work is crucial, but it’s also time-consuming. Often, it leaves critical tasks like purchase orders or planning requisitions unfinished. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐈? 🤖 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐀𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞: 💡 No more clerical overload: Automate repetitive tasks to free up time. 📈 Advanced spend analysis: Get actionable insights at lightning speed. 📜 Smarter contracts: AI drafts contracts that maximize value. 🌍 Global sourcing strategies: Identify the best suppliers worldwide. 💰 Cost reduction: Pinpoint inefficiencies and save big. With AI, procurement isn’t just faster; it’s smarter. Imagine a buyer focused on strategy—not spreadsheets. It’s time to innovate in supply chain management. ========== DM | Follow #shreyaschanekar to navigate these complexities and drive Vendor Development, Procurement, Vendor Relations, Cost Optimization ========== #supplychain #sourcing #procurement #leadershipskills #importexport #teammanagment #supplychainmanagement #purchasesolutions #sourcetopay #inventorymanagement #sourcetopay #inventorymanagement #spendanalysys #soursetopay #customs #negotiation #capexprocurement #teamhandling #vendordevelopment #AIprocurmentandsupplychain

The MV Dali container ship colliding with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, along with the earthquake we just witnessed in Taiwan, reminds us of the vulnerabilities of global supply chains. These unfortunate and devastating events also remind supply chain leaders of cultivating resilience. This Supply Chain Management Review highlights the evolving role of technology in building supply chain resilience because of the opportunities to use digital tools to proactively manage disruptions, identify alternative solutions, and attempt to maintain operations. #SupplyChain #SupplyChainManagement #Technology

Are rising costs eating away at your profits? Engage your suppliers. Search for ideas to reduce costs throughout the supply chain, not just purchase price. Ask for their input on reducing costs. Ideas include inbound freight, item specifications, and how the part affects operational efficiency. Always consider safety, quality, and customer service while evaluating these ideas.

“Never judge someone until you have walk a mile in their shoes” #ProcurementTactics published 5 myths about procurement as a function that, it might crossed your mind or have said or have heard depending your role In my shoes and being +15 years in Purchasing / Procurement / Sourcing, I can share that, this is a key role in every single organization making things happen, protecting, engaging, creating bonds, negotiating the best deals, bringing producitivity, being fair; and generally speaking creating value through long term partnerships, managing several internal & external relationships with suppliers and trade partners. Feel free to share in your own experience what does a Procurement/Sourcing professional have done for you.

If I weren't in supply chain tech, what would my dream job be? Broadway of course! While I don't have the talent to be on stage, I find myself constantly drawing parallels from each show to the business world.... from my seat in the audience. ;-) Here are my top 10 Broadway shows that offer valuable business lessons: 10. Les Misérables: Second Chances & Redemption "𝙒𝙝𝙤 𝙖𝙢 𝙄? 24601!" Just as Jean Valjean transforms, businesses can foster growth by believing in employees' potential for redemption and offering second chances. 9. Six: Individuality & Avoiding Impulsive Decisions "𝘿𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙙!" Highlights the dangers of rash decision-making and the importance of level-headedness. 8. Kinky Boots: Diversity & Inclusion "𝙅𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚." Celebrates the importance of embracing diversity and inclusivity in the workplace. 7. The Lion King: Patience & Strategic Leadership "𝙄'𝙢 𝙜𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙖 𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙣𝙤 𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚!" Simba's journey underscores the balance of patience & decisive action in effective leadership. 6. Dear Evan Hansen: Empathy & Building Strong Relationships "𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙." Highlights the crucial role of empathy and understanding in fostering strong relationships and a positive work environment. 5. Matilda: Initiative & Challenging the Status Quo "𝙅𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚'𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙛𝙖𝙞𝙧, 𝙞𝙩 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨𝙣'𝙩 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙞𝙩." Matilda's rebellious spirit encourages a proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation. 4. Wicked: Mentorship & Lasting Impact "𝘽𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙄 𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙮𝙤𝙪, 𝙄 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙." Strong mentorship relationships can significantly impact individual careers and organizational success. 3. Hamilton: Disruption & Seizing Opportunities "𝙄'𝙢 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙢𝙮 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙩!" Emphasizes the importance of recognizing and capitalizing on opportunities in a dynamic business environment. 2. Hairspray: Adaptability & Embracing Change "𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙣'𝙩 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙥 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙠𝙮." Embodies the unstoppable force of progress & the importance of adapting to stay relevant in a constantly evolving business landscape. 1. The Greatest Showman: Authenticity & Self-Acceptance "𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚, 𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙗𝙧𝙪𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙙, 𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙄'𝙢 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚, 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙚." Reminds us all to be unapologetically authentic, celebrating self-acceptance and embracing individuality in the workplace. *Ok, well this one isn’t on Broadway 𝒚𝒆𝒕, but I’ll be sure to see it in 2025 when it debuts! If you find yourself in NYC, I highly recommend catching one of these amazing productions. (Who knows, maybe there will be a Broadway show about #supplychain in the future… 😉)

⚡️What would you change today if you could? 🤔 I worked with someone who asked this every time he walked the warehouse floor…. Why is it a great question?…👇 ➡️ Temperature check 🌡️… You will work out very quickly the energy of your team on that day ➡️ Engagement without over commitment 💍… This question is open ended and curious - it showed that he was genuinely interested, but it wasn’t tied to an overpromise of action ➡️ Great Ideas 📋… He had a notebook FULL of ideas … Some were great, some were terrible, and some weren’t even related to work (😁) I have used plenty of ‘formal’ feedback mechanisms to capture and implement ideas, these should always be present in a warehouse environment… very often a ‘shop floor’ chat is just as valuable ✅ 📲 Contact me for people focused operations management, transformation, and large scale change - I am available for interim contracts, consulting, and strategic projects 📲 I am also available for business advisory/NED roles 🌍 I live in the UK and I am open to remote global opportunities with some travel [email protected] #supplychainmanagement #logisticsmanagement #WarehouseOperations #Teamwork #Logistics

#WakingWednesday Post 2: How to Leverage JIT and VMI in Your Demand Planning and Forecasts. Many manufacturers have experienced the frustration of losing significant sales due to supply chain constraints caused by sudden shifts in demand. These disruptions often arise from inaccurate forecasts that fail to anticipate unforeseen market trends. Common reasons for forecast failures include: 1. Unpredictable market trends 2. New product launches 3. Seasonality 4. Competitive activity 5. Technological advancements (Rapid advancements in technology can obsolete existing products or create new market opportunities). While it can be challenging to accurately predict these demand shifts, implementing Just-in-Time (JIT) and Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) strategies can significantly improve supply chain resilience. JIT involves producing goods only as needed, minimizing inventory and reducing the risk of stockouts. By maintaining a lean inventory, manufacturers can quickly adjust production to meet changing demand. VMI empowers suppliers to manage inventory levels at customer locations based on real-time demand data. This approach provides better visibility into demand patterns and allows for more responsive replenishment. Example: A leading electronics manufacturer faced a sudden surge in demand for its latest smartphone due to a successful promotional campaign. By using JIT and VMI, they were able to rapidly increase production and meet the demand, avoiding lost sales. Adopting JIT and VMI can: 1. Improve supply chain resilience 2. Enhance customer satisfaction 3. Strengthen competitive advantage #supplychain #demandplanning #inventorymanagement #justintime #vendormanagedinventory #forecasting #predictiveanalytics Photo courtesy - Picsart AI Image generator
