Here’s what 2024 taught me, courtesy of the unapologetically brilliant Julia Linehan, PR powerhouse and the queen of making waves in adtech at The Digital Voice™: 1) #Brand Safety Isn’t Just a Buzzword, It’s Your Brand’s Bodyguard: Forget thinking of it as some obligatory checkmark. It’s the difference between your brand being trusted or trashed. Julia hammered home that brand safety isn’t about playing defense—it's about safeguarding your credibility. Letting your brand frolic in the wild without oversight? That’s like tossing a golden egg into the wind and hoping for the best. 2) PR Does NOT Equal Press Releases, It’s the Art of Storytelling: If you’re still confusing PR with spamming out dry product updates, you’re stuck in 2010, my friend. Julia taught me that good PR is like crafting a narrative that hooks people in, makes them feel something, and leaves them thinking you’ve just revolutionized their day. Press releases are a tool, not the whole toolbox. You’re not selling widgets—you’re selling a story, a vision, a reason people should care. 3) #Adtech Can Be Sexy (Yes, Really): Listen, if you think adtech is boring, you're missing the plot. Julia has this magical ability to take the most mundane tech jargon and turn it into something people actually care about. She proved that even in an industry as complicated as adtech, if you're not making it exciting, you're doing it wrong. There’s always a way to add flair, even if that means adding a little sass to the process. 4) Alcohol-Free is the New Networking Superpower: Julia's unapologetic about ditching booze and still commanding the room. The adtech world loves its drinks, but guess what? Showing up clear-headed with an ability to remember your conversations is the real power move. You can still be the life of the party, but instead of fumbling through a hangover, you’ll be outworking and outsmarting everyone else by 9 a.m. the next morning. 5) Own the Chaos, Or It Will Own You: In PR and adtech, chaos is the norm, not the exception. Julia's lesson was simple: embrace it. If you’re not thriving in the relentless pace, you’re in the wrong room. Her philosophy? Keep up, stay organized, and don’t be afraid to throw some random, off-the-wall ideas into the mix. Sometimes those are the game-changers. So thank you, Julia, for teaching me that #PR is an art form, that adtech can actually be engaging, and that owning your space means owning your process, your story, and your sanity. And no more discussion on cookie deprecation when we know how to solve it (ID-level data can unlock what is needed). April Carlisle, executive VP, commerce, Spark Foundry I’d like to see no more new retail media networks starting up. Clients are overwhelmed with the number and bifurcation of the retail media networks with separate walled gardens and measurement standards that don’t meet industry standards. Retail media has been a significant source of revenue for retailers, but overall marketer budgets are relatively flat in that space, so retail media networks are working fast to expand into upper funnel brand budgets and focus on non–endemic advertisers to continue their growth.

Today, Havas Media Network launches a groundbreaking research paper that combines Lumen Research’s predictive attention models with Brand Metrics’ brand lift studies to uncover the drivers of brand awareness, consideration, preference, and action intent. “What do 9,000 brand lift studies teach us about attention and memory?” analyzes over 9,000 campaigns, involving 1.8 million respondents and 5.6 million impressions, and finds a clear positive link between attention and these brand metrics. This study integrates viewability and frequency data with scaled brand lift responses. While attention metrics have grown rapidly, they’ve been underutilized in media planning—until now. "Our study with Lumen Research and Brand Metrics bridges this gap, offering actionable insights to embed attention into planning and activation," said Jonathan Waite, Global Managing Director of Mx, Havas Media Network London.
