With the FDIC call report data now available for the 3rd quarter of 2024, we can now see that the median bank CD portfolio yield for the quarter was 4.29%, up from 4.16% in the previous quarter. The average CD yield in the U.S. for the quarter was 4.62% when you add up all the CD interest paid and annualize it compared to the average volume of CDs during the quarter. This is up from 4.56% in the previous quarter. This means that the banks paying higher rates had a significantly greater share of the volume. This year we’ve seen a record-setting 22 announced acquisitions of tax-paying community banks by tax-exempt credit unions, further fueling industry consolidation and raising serious questions about tax fairness and the long-term impact on local economies. https://lnkd.in/eVfTk3Rh When a credit union takes over a community bank, the tax revenues that would have gone to support local communities disappear. Meanwhile, community banks, with deep ties to the neighborhoods they serve, lose ground to institutions that don’t operate under the same regulatory or tax obligations. This imbalance undermines fair competition and risks eroding the foundations of many local communities. It’s time for policymakers to consider whether the current tax and regulatory framework for credit unions is still warranted in today's marketplace. #SomethingIsWrong

We would ask for specifics as we could not really do anything without knowing the name of the credit union.
