- Agile projects, like all others, have to address the triple constraints of time, cost, and scope. As you know, Agile follows empirical process control where we use inspection and adaptation to manage our body of work, but what does that look like? Well, first, when a project is approved to move forward a timeframe is defined for the completion of the effort, and a cross-functional team is pulled together. Remember, an Agile team is cross-functional, meaning that everyone needed to complete the work is allocated to the project 100%. Since this is the case, it's easy to calculate the cost of the effort. For example, let's say Red 30 Tech company decided to build a user web portal and estimated it would take four months to complete the work. Red 30 Tech also pulled together an Agile team of people at $50 per person per day. The calculation, then, looks like this. Five people times $50 a day equals $250 per day as cost.
