- [Instructor] When we want to look at changes over time, we usually use a line chart. However, in some cases, 100% area chart can be a better choice if we're looking at part to whole relationships and how each individual element contributes to the whole. Let's look an example of a line chart and then compare that to the equivalent 100% area chart to look at the pros and cons. So first, we're going to build a line chart looking at our regional sales for the year 2015. So we'll have our date which will be in months and our sales, and then subdivide it up by regions. At the moment, we're looking at the absolute dollar amount of our sales. We're interested in the percentage breakdown for each of the regions and how they contribute to the whole sale for each month.
