People have this assumption that because I'm disaster affected, I'm untrustworthy. I don't know what to do with the money. I'm going to do the wrong things with the money. I'm just going to say remind yourself that centering you in their decisions. Why do we have this assumption that people who have been affected by a disaster careless about their children, careless about their healthcare, care less about their jobs? We need to recognize that the cash programming allows them to choose where the gaps in their assistance and needs are. For example, let's say. I am a disaster affected individual and I get funding for my roof. I don't want money for my roof. I have my roof covered. What I need money for is the mold remediation or fixing my car which also got damaged in the flood or whatever it may be and by you giving me it as cash I get to make a decision where is the gap I need to plug right now at this moment and it might change next.
