Join Prof. Mrinal Kaul, Assistant Professor of Indian Philosophy, IIT-Bombay, as he delves into Abhinavagupta’s revolutionary concept of ‘absolute non-duality’ (paramādvaita)—a principle that harmonizes the seemingly opposing ideas of duality and non-duality. Discover how this unified meta-category of non-dual consciousness bridges binaries, emphasizing inclusivism and pluralistic forms of singular consciousness. Explore connections to modern ideas like pluralistic non-dualism and subjective pluralism, and uncover the relevance of Abhinavagupta’s philosophy in today’s world. One of the legacies of Western philosophical thought is its evolution through movements such as modernism, postmodernism, existentialism, analyticism, among others . These prominent intellectual frameworks have contributed to making Western culture more dialogical and progressive. In contrast, the exploration of socio-philosophical movements within the Indian philosophical tradition, particularly beyond ancient times, remains relatively underexplored. This opens up significant avenues for research in Indian philosophy, especially in the context of contemporary Indian philosophy, which I have endeavored to address in this work.Morever, in this work, you shall also find a unique window of thought to enter the modern Indian thought. Please feel free to comment .😊🙏🌼🌸☀️

https://lnkd.in/g9SrN4-j Philosophy as a discipline has always dealt with existential questions of life, society and the sciences. Interestingly, modern philosophical thought has come to be dominated by Western thinkers, with ancient Asian schools of the discipline, including Indian and Chinese, taking a back seat. This has been attributed to the past few centuries of colonialism through which European powers have dominated most aspects of human life. With the revival of Asia over the past three decades, several scholars of Asian origin have tried to argue the importance of studying comparative philosophy. Retired Victoria University of Wellington professor Jaysankar Lal Shaw is one such scholar. Shaw taught at Victoria University for more than four decades, leading courses on Western philosophy, Māori philosophy, Confucianism, Buddhism and comparative philosophy. One of Shaw's key contributions over this time has been putting forward the relevance of Indian philosophy to contemporary Western thinking.

Published in 2020, ‘Chinese and Indian Ways of Thinking in Early Modern European Philosophy: The Reception and the Exclusion’ by Selusi Ambrogio examines how European philosophy in early modern times excluded Chinese and Indian thought due to changing historiographical paradigms, Eurocentric superiority, and religious prejudice, shaping philosophy as a Greek-European domain. Book Summary: “Why were Chinese and Indian ways of thinking excluded from European philosophy in early modern times? This is a study of what happened to the European understanding of China and India between the late 16th century and the first half of the 18th century. Investigating the description of these two Asian civilizations during a century and a half of histories of philosophy, this book accounts for the change of historiographical paradigms, from Neoplatonic philosophia perennis and Spinozistic atheism to German Eclecticism. Uncovering the reasons for inserting or excluding Chinese and Indian ways of thinking within the field of Philosophy in early modern times, it reveals the origin of the Eurocentric understanding of Philosophy as a Greek-European prerogative. By highlighting how this narrowing and exclusion of non-Western ways of thought was a result of conviction of superiority and religious prejudice, this book provides a new way of thinking about the place of Asian traditions among World philosophies.” Available: https://lnkd.in/d-Wqyufg Tags: #philosophy_zubairsbookshelf

Debiprasad Chattopadhyaya was more than just a philosopher; he was a trailblazer who connected ancient Indian materialism with modern scientific thinking. Through his works, he shed light on how early Indian philosophies like Lokayata emphasized rationality and questioned blind beliefs. His dedication to understanding the intersections of philosophy, science, and history continues to inspire thinkers today. Let’s revisit his contributions and explore how his ideas remain relevant in modern discussions. 🌟📖 #DebiprasadChattopadhyaya #IndianPhilosophy #AncientToModern #Materialism #Rationality #ScienceAndPhilosophy #ThoughtfulLegacy #PhilosophicalWisdom #ThinkersOfIndia #ExploringIdeas

☑️ *READ TEXT BELOW:* In the middle of the fifth century BCE, Empedocles of Acragas formulated a philosophical program in hexameter verse that pioneered the influential four-part theory of roots (air, water, earth, and fire) along with two active principles of Love and Strife, which influenced later philosophy, medicine, mysticism, cosmology, and religion. The philosophical system responded to Parmenides’ rejection of change while embracing religious injunctions and magical practices. As a result, Empedocles has occupied a significant position in the history of Presocratic philosophy as a figure moving between mythos and logos, religion and science. Modern debate arises from the lack of consensus on the number of his verse works, their relation to one another, and the coherence of his philosophical system as a whole. Kingsley, K. FLASH BACK OF (2021/06/02) THE SUBJECTIVITY OF PHILOSOPHICAL POSTULATIONS On any Philosophical base you might wish to apply it,there is no need of forgetting a subjective point of view of Philosophical ideology: for Philosophy started as a subjective thought and all Philosophical postulations started on subjective point of view(as individual thought) before gaining wider acceptance; and in fact still remain on a subjective point of view in its acceptance. Because rarely (if any) is a Philosophical position really acceptable to all,or else what is the need for different Philosophical ideologies. Moreover, Objectivity is of transcendental existence,as expressed by Plato in the "world of form" and Nebeolism-Igweism in "Transcendentalism". ISN-ODP/FMP: Nebeolism-Igweism (2024/06/02)

Someone asked: How is the philosophy of Hinduism based on human sciences? Me: Human sciences is still a toddler, tied down to cause-effect relation. What to say of Hindu philosophy, every philosophy and religion teaches you to rise above this cause-effect limits. So, any knowledge system, including literature, claiming itself to be scientific, has to be pretty simplistic

☑️ *READ TEXT BELOW:* Part 3: The most important of these figures is Hippasus. What criterion should be used to identify an early figure as a Pythagorean is controversial and there is debate about individual cases. Fourth-century evidence shows that Pythagoreanism gave an unusually large role to women for an ancient philosophical school. It is likely that the Pythagorean communities that practiced a way of life that they traced back to Pythagoras died out in the middle of the fourth century BCE. (4) The last manifestation of Pythagoreanism, Neopythagoreanism, has been the most influential. Neopythagoreanism is not a unified school of thought but rather a tendency, stretching over many centuries, to view Pythagoras, with no historical justification, as the central and original figure in the whole Greek philosophical tradition. This Pythagoras is often thought to have received his philosophy as a divine revelation, which had been given even earlier to wise men of the ancient Near East such as the Persian Magi, the Hebrews (Moses in particular), and the Egyptian priests. All Greek philosophy after Pythagoras, insofar as it may be true, is seen as derived from this revelation. (...)
