Every week we talk to founders excited about building their product with "just AI." They come back 3 months later with a mess of non-functioning code and technical debt they don't understand. Here's the truth: AI coding tools are amazing productivity enhancers for experienced developers. But they're terrible substitutes for actual software engineers. Why? Because software development isn't just about writing code. It's about understanding business requirements, architecting scalable solutions, and building maintainable systems. At Full Scale, we're seeing a wave of companies who tried to cut corners with AI development. Now they're paying double to fix the technical debt they created. Don't let this be you. #SoftwareDevelopment #AIinTech #TechLeadership #ProductDevelopment

As a software developer I’m both very excited and very anxious about AI - in a good way. AI is changing the world fast. (And as a software developer, I feel it) I’m excited about what it can do: - Automating boring tasks - Speeding up how we work - Building smarter tools But I’m also nervous: - Will my skills stay useful? - How do I keep up with all the changes? Here’s what I’ve learned: Feeling nervous is part of being excited. We’re not just watching this happen; we’re part of it. And that’s amazing. To my fellow developers: how do you feel about AI? Excited? Nervous? Both? #softwaredevelopment #ai #llm

🤯 Thoughts from the front lines of software development in this new AI world... This was an incredible week for us, in terms of what we accomplished with such a small team. I've been doing this for a long time and it even blew my mind! Things are changing in the software development world at lightning speed. Being a good software engineer no longer means being an exceptional coding expert who knows all the latest, greatest coding tricks. It's nice to have one on your team (and we do) - but the days of those cowboys are over. In this new AI world, being a great software engineer means having the ability to really understand the big picture and grasp the algorithmic design behind applications. They must be able to envision the entire solution clearly and most importantly, articulate it effectively so AI can help multiply your code output. I think it was Einstein who said, "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." This has never been more true than it todays world of AI assisted software engineering. Another important note is that your engineering department must have a consistent development methodology and a coordinated plan on how to use AI. Especially as the team grows. My small team and I are seeing 2-3x increases in code output with ridiculously high quality. And I'm not just talking about the improvement since these powerful models were released 3 years ago. We're seeing the models today, in January 2025, being even more reliable and accurate with coding than the versions we were using just a few months ago in September and October. I think it was Zuckerberg who said, (paraphrasing here) by mid-2025 the most competitive technology companies will replace all mid-level engineers with AI. I'm seeing first-hand this reality play out month by month right now. So again, its not AI who is going to replace your software engineering job, its an engineer who understands AI and how to use it to code, that will replace your job. Oh boy, this is moving fast! Very excited about the potential here as we're just a few months away from releasing our AI SaaS platform, code-named "Bright Eyes". Stay tuned for more! Happy Friday! 🚀

The hard part about software NEVER was writing code. Yet “AI soothsayers” keep talking about the death of software engineering. There are THREE vested interests here: 1) The AI Investors & Founders They want to succeed. And they are willing to peddle anything for that. 2) The Soothsaying “CEO” Usually a CEO unrelated to AI, but eyes shine bright when seeing the possibility of “cutting costs” by laying off technologists. They talk about how “writing code” will no longer be a tough task. (Well, it never was) 3) The Bad Programmer The wolf in sheep’s clothing. If you’ve been in software engineering long enough, you’d know that more than 80% of them are really bad at their jobs. It’s quite a relief to them when AI makes them supposedly as productive as the rest of the 20%. Yet, the truth is: 1) AI is a tool. An abstraction. It’s like an even higher level DSL. 2) Writing code, laughably, has never been the toughest part of programming. Engineers have always creatively automated boilerplate, snippets, etc. 3) If there is software in whatever form, the people creating it will be called “software engineers” regardless of what tools they use. 4) People who focus on how AI can make yesterday’s problems easier, rather than tomorrow’s problems viable, are not visionaries. — Follow me to elevate your software engineering career in startups. #software #softwareengineering #artificialintelligence #startups #innovation #criticalthinking #growth
