One thing that's really apparent when you approach things from the data side is that these OSPO concerns are all different aspects of the same issue from different perspectives: (1.) How do open source project's figure out if their community is healthy? (2.) How can developers select the safest and most sustainable packages? (3.) What's a repo's, service's, or product's aggregate risk from poor dependency hygiene... meaning deprecated, unmaintained, or overwhelmed open source projects? (4.) How do business's select open source project's most in need of upstream contributions or financial funding out of 10,000s in order to get highest ROI? If you care about any of these and are at the 2024 Open Source Summit North America conference, you'll enjoy the panel discussion on viability by Emma Irwin , Dawn Foster , Gary White Jr., and Matt Germonprez https://lnkd.in/gxvxh9tD

A research paper from #LinuxFoundation shows that 70-90% of modern code is #OpenSourceSoftware(OSS). I find it insane that most organisations have built sophisticated functions and procedures (procurement, risk management, ) for dealing with software and services coming from vendors but have NO relationship with #OSS. #OpenSource #OSPO #Risk
