While investments in NbS and green projects have increased in the recent past, a critical gap consists of the issue of lack of scale. Landscape approach offers such aggregation of interventions for achieving synergies and impact at scale. A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of convening a diverse set of experts at #SankalpBharat2024 to explore "Financing Landscape Transitions"—a critical topic for building sustainable ecosystems through synergistic investments. The session featured insightful contributions from representatives of CIFOR-ICRAF, WWF, Axis Bank Foundation, and NABARD. Key Highlights from the session: 🌿 Taking examples from their own work, the panelists discussed how landscapes, as complex systems of interconnected stakeholders, require coordinated finance to transition towards more sustainable and climate-resilient outcomes. 📚 Experts shared cases and experiences on overcoming institutional, financial and other barriers, scaling sustainable practices, and the power of public-private partnerships. 💲 The issue of value vs price in incentivizing the last mile for sustainability efforts was a key issue discussed from the markets perspective. 💰One of the major takeaways was the importance of leveraging blended finance models to leverage private capital and ensure that smallholders and SMEs can access affordable credit to support climate-smart practices. 👥 The conversation emphasized a "people-first approach"—ensuring that financing mechanisms not only benefit landscapes but also uplift local communities. On July 30 the Catalytic Climate Finance Facility (CC Facility) Learning Hub will launch its inaugural report focused on the nexus of gender and energy within climate blended finance. The launch event will offer key findings from the report and practical advice on integrating gender considerations into climate blended finance instruments. The inaugural Blue Earth Impact 360 survey surveyed 130 impact market participants, with nearly two-thirds from Europe, almost a fifth from North America, and the rest from Asia, Latin America, Africa, and Australia. The survey found that climate, environmental, and social issues are the most important factors impacting investors, followed by sustainable agriculture, infrastructure, financial inclusion, and healthcare. Very proud to be part of this panel on gender and climate organised by Convergence Blended Finance. A fellow presenter mentioned that "women are disproportionally affected by climate, therefore they can disproportionnally benefit from gender mainstreamed solutions". It strongly echoes with our work at Beyond Finance and benefits also to their families and communities. However, to achieve that, we need to hear the voice of women in emerging markets.
