NIGP: The Institute for Public Procurement’s Post

The Institute is extremely proud to recognize the 161 procurement professionals who earned their NIGP Certified Procurement Professional designation (NIGP-CPP) during the May 2024 testing period. It also pushed the annual total (August 2023 to May 2024) to 410 recipients...doubling the number of new NIGP-CPPs year over year. Our competency-based, modular exam has become one of the fastest growing procurement/contracting certifications in our industry - and I believe its due to the unique attributes of the program. First, the program reflects the rigorous standards established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI); earning accreditation by the ANAB - ANSI National Accreditation Board. The NIGP-CPP is one of only two procurement/contracting certification programs to earn this award. Our colleagues at National Contract Management Association (NCMA) also manage a program that is accredited by ANAB. Standards matter in #publicprocurement and they matter for NIGP: The Institute for Public Procurement. Second, the certification targets mid-to-executive level leaders... a vital demographic for sustainability in what has become a shallow talent pool. Third, the NIGP-CPP is one of several credentials that can be earned by practitioners under the Pathways program as they pursue a career in public procurement. Fourth, the certification remains relevant because it is integrated with NIGP's content curation and research programs and therefore, is a benefactor of NIGP's #globalbestpractices and the NIGP's Center for the Advancement of Research and Excellence (CARE). Finally, the certification was designed with the flexibility needed by fast-paced professionals: a two year application, four testing windows annually, and an independently-scored modular exam. The Institute continues its work to ensure that public procurement is a career of choice - in our Pathways learning system, in our CARE research program, in member benefits and networks, in our relationships with businesses and academicians, and in our collegial partnerships with other like-minded associations. I have been privileged to serve as the Institute's Chief Executive for 26 years and to watch how leaders, subject matter experts, and students come together to enhance their learning. Together, every day is an impact day for the community of citizens who rely on the expertise, ethics, integrity, and impartiality of the public procurement community.

Today I received my official NIGP Certified Procurement Professional (NIGP-CPP) certificate. NIGP-CPP is specifically targeted to mid- to executive-level procurement leaders. It is competency-based to assess the technical competencies, skills, abilities, and behaviors required of a strategic public procurement leader. In May of 2024, the NIGP-CPP certification program has not only become the most sought-after certification in public procurement, but it’s now only the second procurement and contracting certification (NIGP and the National Contract Management Association [NCMA]) to ever achieve accreditation by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), the most prestigious personnel certification accreditation program worldwide.  By earning ANAB’s accreditation, the achievement validates that our certification, achieved now by 1,500 procurement leaders throughout North America, meets those standards. We recognize that standards are critically important to the public procurement community which frequently incorporates ANSI and ISO standards in bid specifications and assessments. #NIGPCPP #NIGP #Procurement #Purchasing

It’s more than a certificate! 📜 Every year as members of CIPS - The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply we undertake the Ethical Procurement and Supply Chain online training and assessment. Not just ticking a box ✅ it is about continued learning and growth as procurement professionals and being accountable, responsible in demonstrating ethical practice within our day to day roles.
