Track it*. Measure it. Allocate it. *With Toggl Track... obviously 😏
I tracked every single minute I worked over the past 4 weeks. The results surprised me. I used a tool freelancers use for tracking billable hours to track everything I worked on for 4 weeks, even smallest tasks like replying to emails or support tickets. I had a few assumptions before this experiment: 👉 I spend at least 40% of my time on growth-related tasks 👉 25%-30% on product related tasks 👉 and the rest on everything else, including admin work such as accounting... Why so much allocation on growth? Well, we've been growing 30% month over month in the past 6 months so I assumed that most of my tasks belonged to this category. The reality turned out to be somewhat different: Overall I net 50-60 hours per week on average. 👉 15% on growth-related tasks 👉 29% on fundraising-related tasks 👉 44% on product-related tasks 👉 12% on everything else (these numbers include meetings) A number I'm very proud of: I achieved at least 4 hours of focus work per day on average. Some days 6+ hours! We're talking about non-interrupted, all notifications disabled kind of work. One important remark - fundraising activities are temporary in nature and come in spikes. I expect to spend much more on fundraising in the next 4-8 weeks before it tampers off. My overall conclusions - I should intentionally allocate A LOT MORE time on growth. If we achieved so much velocity with 15% of my time, how much can we achieve if I doubled it? I'll let you know in 3-5 months 😁. Cool experiment. Highly recommend.
