What is regional availability?
Setting an event’s regional availability (geo-blocking or geo-allowing) lets hosts restrict access to their event based on viewers' locations. Location is typically based on the viewer’s IP address.
When configuring Regional Availability for your live events, you can:
- Allow Locations: Specify where the event can be viewed.
- Deny Locations: Specify the locations where the event cannot be viewed.
Regional Availability helps content owners:
- Comply with licensing agreements: Ensure that your event is only viewed in regions where you have the rights to show it.
- Protect content: Prevent unauthorized access to your event.
You can set an event’s regional availability by region or country. Regional availability for cities and zip codes based in the United States is also supported.
Setting regional availability by country or region
Team Owners, Admins, and Contributor + members can manage geoblocking settings on the Vimeo website. These settings are not available on the Vimeo mobile app.
- Visit the web-based production tool for your event.
- Select the Settings gear in the top-right corner.
- Select Regional Availability to expand the menu.
- Select Manage to open the Manage Regional Availability window.
- Use the dropdown menu to select whether you want to’ Block in specific regions’ or ‘Allow in particular regions.
- Select the checkmark next to each region or country to allow or block, depending on your setting type. You can also use the search bar to find specific countries and regions.
- Select Apply when you are finished.
Setting regional availability by US-based cities or zip codes
You can also set regional availability by using zip codes. Support for city and zip/postal codes is currently limited to cities and zip codes in the United States.
To set regional availability for your event by zip/postal code:
- In the Manage Regional Availability window, select the World icon.
- Select Enter US zip codes.
- Enter each 5-digit ZIP code and press Enter.
- You can add multiple ZIP codes by separating them by commas (e.g., 10001, 10002, 10003) and selecting Enter.
- Select Apply to save your settings.
- You can download your list of regions as a .csv file by selecting the download button at the bottom left of the window.
Setting regional availability using a .csv file
In addition, you can bulk allow or block regions using a .csv file. Learn how to format your file at ‘How do I format a .csv file to set regional availability for my video or live event?’
To import your .csv file:
- Select the Upload icon in the bottom-left corner in the Manage regional availability window.
- Select the CSV file from your device to upload.
- Review the imported data.
- Click "Apply" to save the settings.
What will viewers experience?
Viewers in geo-allowed regions can watch your event normally without any indication that your event has regional access restrictions applied.
Viewers in restricted regions cannot view your live event. They will receive an error message that it is unavailable in their region. Learn more at 'What does “This video is not available in your region” mean?'
